Jets sign forgotten Swiss goalie prospect David Aebischer to tryout contract

THE Winnipeg Jets have signed goaltender David Aebischer, the former Avalanche/Canadiens/Coyotes prospect who has spent the last four years playing in Switzerland, to a tryout contract.

Aebischer, 33, will attend training camp but is an extreme long shot to unseat either Ondrej Pavelec or Chris Mason. Essentially, he is on loan from his club team in the Swiss league, Lugano, and in all likelihood will be headed back to Europe. If he was to stick, the Jets would have to come to a financial agreement with the Swiss club to get him signed to an NHL deal.

The product of Fribourg, Switzerland, was drafted by the Avs in 1997 and played for the Swiss at the 1998 World Junior Championships when they shocked the international hockey world by grabbing the bronze and he was named the all-star goaltender in that tournament.

After Pavelec and Mason the Jets' top goaltending prospect is Fredrik Pettersson-Wentzel, who played for Sweden at the last WJC.

A Lugano abbiamo già il portiere titolare e la sua riserva!!
Per Abby non c`è più spazio!!!
Quando aveva la possibilità di riconfermare la posizione di titolare non l' ha fatto!!!

L’Hockey Club Lugano comunica di aver raggiunto un accordo con il portiere David Aebischer per consentire al giocatore la partecipazione al campo d’allenamento dei Winnipeg Jets che si svolgerà dal prossimo 10 settembre al 3 ottobre.
 
Durante tale periodo David Aebischer proverà a strappare un contratto two-ways con la franchigia canadese per la stagione 2011/2012.
 
Come noto, l’organizzazione dei Winnipeg Jets prenderà parte quest’anno al campionato della NHL, avendo rilevato la licenza degli ex Atlanta Trashers.
