Apr 18, 2010 - HC Dynamo Moscow, the oldest hockey club in Russia, will announce in the coming days that they are merging with HC MVD, another Russian club, prior to next season. The news comes via Yahoo!'s Dimitry Chesnokov, a born-and-bred Dynamo fan.
According to Chesnokov, the two clubs will merge to form a new club during the offseason. There's no word on what the new club will be called or to what extent Dynamo's 64 year history will carry over. All that's known now is that it's happening, much to the dismay of the Russian hockey world.
Dynamo has participated in the KHL since the league's inception in 2008. Prior to that, the club participated in several difference leagues, including the Soviet League from 1946 to 1992. They won the final three championships in that league's history, back-to-back-to-back from 1990 to '92.
Sergei Gonchar, Alex Ovechkin, Alexei Kovalev, Viktor Kozlov, Darius Kasparaitis and Alexei Zhamnov are some of the notable NHL players who have also played for Dynamo.
